Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 27, 2026 · Applies to the Our Story iOS app
The short version: Our Story stores the memories you and your partner create — and nothing more than it needs to keep your shared timeline in sync between the two of you. There are no ads, no third-party analytics, and we never sell your data. Your story is private to your story's members.
Who we are
Our Story is made by OctoPanther LLC ("we," "us"), a North Dakota limited liability company. You can reach us at support@octopanther.com.
Information we store
To provide a shared timeline that syncs between you and your partner, the app stores the content you create on our backend (Google Firebase):
- Memories — titles, dates, notes, photos, optional place names and map coordinates, and optional chapter groupings.
- Story details — your story's name (if you set one), start date, and which accounts are members or invited viewers.
- Account information — an account identifier. The app signs you in anonymously at first; if you sign in with Apple (needed to invite a partner or to edit as an invited partner), we receive the identifier Apple provides and, if you share them, your name and email address. Sign in with Apple lets you hide your real email address.
- Device push tokens — so your device can receive a notification when your partner adds a memory.
Who can see your content
Your story is visible only to its members (at most two) and anyone who opens a valid invite link you shared (read-only, until revoked or promoted to the second member). We designed the security rules so no other users can access your story. OctoPanther does not browse or review your content; we may access it only if required to troubleshoot an issue at your request or as required by law.
Service providers
Your data is stored and synced using Google Firebase (Firestore, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions, and Firebase Cloud Messaging), acting as our data processor. Google's handling of this data is governed by the Firebase privacy documentation. We use no advertising or analytics SDKs.
Notifications
"On this day" reminders are scheduled locally on your device and only fire on dates that hold one of your memories. Partner-activity notifications are delivered through Apple and Firebase push infrastructure. You can turn notifications off at any time in iOS Settings.
Purchases
Our Story Pro purchases are processed entirely by Apple. We never see your payment details. A flag noting that your story has Pro unlocked is stored with your story so the upgrade works for both partners.
Deleting your data
You can delete individual memories, photos, and chapters in the app at any time; deletions sync to your partner's device. To delete your account and all associated data, use the delete option in the app's settings or email support@octopanther.com and we will remove it.
Children
Our Story is intended for adults in a relationship and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles data, we will update this policy and note the new effective date at the top of this page before the change takes effect.
